The progress of spermiogenesis in cultivated spermatocysts at 3-day-old pupae of the diapausing M. brassicae was examined under in vitro conditions with GRACE'S medium without ecdysones. If the "naked" spermatocysts were cultivated with intact or ruptured testis, they developed into elongated spermatocysts. On the contrary, the "naked" spermatocysts alone obtained from the same insect did not undergo spermiogenesis in vitro. However, the "naked" spermatocysts could develop into an elongated form in the medium in which the testis had been pre-cultured for 5 days. From these results, it was concluded that the testis itself may play some role in the development of spermatocysts in vitro.
