Thirteen and 14 kinds of amino acids were detected in the artificially injured and uninjured sugar beet leaf tissues, respectively. Expressed in protein units, all the amino acids with the exception of valine, isoleucine and phenylalanine decreased as the result of the injury. The total amount of amino acids was significantly greater in uninjured tissue.Seventeen and 15 kind of amino acids were detected in the cabbage leaf tissue in jured by E. rugosum and the uninjured tissue, respectively. The amount in protein units of all the amino acids with the exception of lysine increased in the injured leaf tissue. The total amount of amino acids was sllightly more abundant in the injured tissue. The significance of differences in the amino acid pattern is discussed in relation to occurrence of the injury.
