This paper provides an overview of research on comprehension and evaluation of written arguments (ex. editorials, articles, and persuasive texts) from the viewpoint of text comprehension research. Readers use two ways of case building and evidence weighing. When readers interacts with writer's argument, they build a case more frequently than weigh evidence. Several important factors are pointed out; reader, text, metacognitive engagement during reading and argumentative knowledge. More studies on the process of interaction with writer's argument is needed.
