This paper aims to clarify the functions of otherness which teacher represents to compose an identity of a child. I try to examine the communicative process through which a child searched for her identity, being involved in exchanging "SOUSAKU NOTES (creative writing notes)" with a teacher. In this examination, I focus on two kinds of otherness, otherness 1 and otherness 2; the one is the otherness in which we can recognize ourselves positively, and the other is the otherness which enables us to estimate ourselves according to the standards of transcendent values. In addition, I rethink the teacher's narrative in which he appears as a character and as a storyteller. He represents otherness 1 as the former and otherness 2 as the latter at the same time. The results of this consideration are as follows : First, circulation and transformation of otherness 1 and otherness 2 enables a child to search for his/her identity continually. Secondly, this circulation and transformation can be brought about by the emplotment of the teacher's narrative. Finally, sharing and repetition of storytelling between teacher and child prepare a central place on which the child can compose his/her own identity.
