Infectious canine hepatitis virus, strain "MATSUDA", from dog kidney tissue culture has been purified by methanol precipitation, extraction with organic solvents, and differential centrifugation. The ICH virus particle in the resulting purified virus concentrates has been identified by electron microscopy in agar pseudo-replica specimens as a uniform-sized particle 85mμ (unshadow), 96mμ (Pd-shadow) in diameter. These particles were found in parallel with viral infectivity. Some of the particles contain a central dense core surrounded by less dense material enclosed in a membrane when unshadowed and this central core when shadowed appears to be protuberant.
