• According to the method of technology assessment, the needs, utilization and costs for health care and welfare services among the eldery in Japan were examined from the perspective of quality of life. To evaluate health outcomes among the eldery, the multi-attribute utility theory is considered to be the most useful and appropriate method. The extent and kinds of health care and welfare technology were identified by the critical appraisal of their effectiveness. Moreover, prioritization of health care and welfare services through cost-utility analysis is proposed to be the most essential task for thinking out strategies for the future services.
