第2言語習得における意識化 : インプット過程の考察

A substantial body of research has investigated the role of input in second language acquisition. The fundamental question within that area of research is : how does input become intake? Most research to date points to the importance of focusing on form in a communicative context. This study investigates the ability of learners to focus on form. It looks at whether Japanese university students of English at three proficiency levels can consciously focus on form while attending to meaning. The results suggest that conscious attention to form while processing for meaning is a challenging task even for learners at the advanced level. The results also suggest that focusing on form weighs differently for each proficiency level. The study ends with some pedagogical considerations.
