In order for students to understand a computer architecture, a set of teaching materials was developed. The teaching set was introduced in 1993 to a computer practice course of the faculty as a product. The course for two credits devoted to the second semester is compulsory for the sophomore class in the department of information engineering, and the same for the junior class in the department of information systems. The developed materials include the model YP-10B, an 8-bit one board computer designed specifically for the educational purpose, an 8 × 8 LED display, coding sheets exclusive to the computer and a text book for the course. In the course, each student is given its own computer and learns how to operate it and understands the principle of the computer architecture. Thereafter, an assignment to produce a program by himself or herself is given. By finishing the program writing, the student is expected to master the course. The lapse of four years since their introduction, the materials have been refined through response of the students, and are now considered to be complete.
