Enjoying modern art with an enthusiasm, Herbert Read (1893-1968) attempts to show how to approach the new developments in painting and sculpture. In this study I propose that one of the aesthetical bases of his art criticism is in his autobiographical work, The Innocent Eye (1933). In the same year, 1933, Art Now, is published. It is his first book of art criticism. In this book on art, it is suggested that he wishes to introduce a new term, <Crecollection>, into the science of art , for all modern art, in his view, are symbolic, and they depend not on emotions or feelings, but on <Crecollection>, he asserts. On the other hand, only when he has recovered the sensibility with its first innocence, a virgin sensibility, can he write criticism. Herbert Read understands or supports the artists of modern art and criticizes their works with the visionary eye of childhood.
