Crosslinked polyurethane ionomers with systematically varying the ion concentration were prepared. The effect of ion concentration on the viscoelastic properties of polyurethanes was studied. These polyurethane ionomers were prepared by using polyoxypropylene glycol and 2,4-tolylene diisocyanate as starting materials and 2-dimethylaminoethanol, 1,6-dibromohexane and p-xylylenedichloride as chain extenders or crosslinking agents. As the ion concentration was increased, ten second modulus Er (10) showed a tendency to decrease gradually with increasing temperature because of the reluxation of ionene segment in the series of the same degree of crosslinking. In the series which the blockness of ionene segment was increased, in contrast, Er (10) markedly increased with increasing ion concentration owing to the formation of crystalline domains. The Tg of soft polyether segment was elevated linearly with increasing ion concentration, and the degree of the rise in Tg was 40℃-l/mol. This value was several times higher than that in the case of hydrogen bond.
