Segmented polyurethane ionomers with systematically varying the blockness of ionene segment were prepared by the Menschutkin reacton of dimethylaminourethane prepolymer (DAU), diamines, and dihalides. The viscoelastic properties of the segmented polyurethane ionomers were studied in a wide range of temperature. DAU was prepared by the reaction of 2-dimethylaminoethanol and isocyanate-terminated prepolymer obtained from polytetramethylene glycol and 4, 4'- diphenylmethane diisocyanate. The polyurethane ionomers containing aliphatic 6,6-ionene segments showed Tg due to the amorphous phases of ionene segments at around 40-50℃. As the blockness of ionene segment was increased, the ten-second modulus Er(10) was increased and the flow region shifted to a higher temeperature. Tg in a series of amorphous 6,10-ionene was observed clearly and shifted to a higher temperature as the blockness of ionene segment was increased. In contrast, the polyurethane ionomers containing aromatic 2, x-ionene and 6,6-ionene with high concentration showed no clear Tg and behaved as crystalline polymers.
