Cadmium cathode in cadmium sulfate (S) and in cadmium nitrate (N) solution behaviours as if it were different metal each other, polarizing exceedingly in the latter. Its polarization characteristics were measured, and electrochemical reaction parameters, i. e., c_0 , equilibrium adion concentration, k, surface diffusion coefficient of adions, i_0, exchange current density, and C_<DL> , capacity of electrical double layer, were assessed and compared between N and S. It was concluded that the rate determining step of electrodeposition at low overpotential was surface diffusion of adions in both cases and the differences between N and S were attributed to a difference of effective surface area due to adsorption of anions on the electrode.
