数学の得意度と成績に関する一考察

It has often been heard recently that more and more junior high school students have a tendency to be uninterested in studying mathematics. Moreover, because the number of junior high school students has been decreasing, entrance examinations for high schools and technical colleges are becoming less competitive. Educators now worry about the level of their students' mathematical ability as they continue to study the subject at a higher level. Since 1995, the Division of Mathematics here at Nagaoka National College of Technology has been investigating what percentages of junior high school students who enter this school have at least some confidence in mathematics. Also, investigations into how their grades have changed after their enrollment has been conducted. This paper presents the results of these investigations and offers some reflections on them.
