Unlike mainstream feminists, anarchist feminists tried to reconstruct the present political and economic system in order to realize their dream of an anarchist society. Freedom from everything was a big concept for them. Many anarchist feminists were against woman suffrage, since they did not accept the present political framework. In addition, they attacked marriage and family and endorsed liberated female sexuality. Many of them were advocates of free love. They thought that birth control was important, however, they did not pay attention to the rights of children. Their dream was not realized in a capitalist society where industrialization and urbanization urged women to work outside and factory production eroded women's traditional functions as home makers. I examine how women with extreme view made a difference in late 19th century America and what they left us as a treasure over a hundred years ago.
