Distribution of Impact Values in the Neighborhood of Joint of Wel-ten 80 Steel Welded by NOW Process

I-shape butt welding of the Wel-ten80 steel plate was executed by the NOW process. That is, granular backing flux was pressed against the back surface of the I-butt groove, and coated rods were laid on the flux in the bottom of the groove and the end of electrode wire was sent out into the groove from a wire reel. Then starting the CO_2-O_2 arc, the first layer was deposited and this operation was repeated at the second, third and fourth layers. After the welding of four layers of the I-butt groove the V-notch Charpy impact values and the Vickers hardnesses were measured in the neighborhood of the joint. According to these experiments, the impact values of H.A.Z. of the Wel-ten 80 steel are not lower than that of the base plate and the former is often somewhat greater than the latter. This is one characteristic of this kind of steel.
