The audio-lingual method bases itself on the aural channel of perception. Repeated listening and speaking by the students of strictly selected structures (models of sentences) brings about their automaticity. This method has such merits as a distinct goal, achieveing of this goal with different exercises, learning of grammar through the models and speech patterns, taking into consideration the native language of students, using of technical means and so on. But at the same time this method doesn't distinquish speech habits, which must be automatic, and speech abilities, which should be conscious.
