One of the world' oldest oil region, Baku of Azerbaijan, has been spotlighted again as the hottest battlefield for oil since the collapse of the USSR. Other newly born nations around the Caspian Sea, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, have also been very active in inviting international oil companies in order to secure their economical and political independence from the Commonwealth of Russia. Oil exploration and field development projects are in progress at a number of places of that region, and the question "Is the Caspian Region the Second Middle East?" will be concluded in the near future. Oil and natural gas transportation is more strategic problem for both the host countries and oil companies. To do oil business in Central Asia and the Trans-Caucasus Area may be a geopolitical challenge with unexpected difficulties and/or unlooked-for successes.
