It is commonly accepted in the tradition of generative grammar that Brame (1981), Hellan (1986) and Abney (1987), among many syntacticians, established the so-called DP hypothesis. Equipped with this pioneering and seminal idea, we have been able to investigate the syntactic structure of nominal elements even more elaborately than ever. In this paper, we are devotedly concerned with the so-called quantificational phrases in English, focusing on the syntactic and semantic characterization of preposition of in them. My main claim here is that the preposition of in a book of John and that of three kinds of book are clearly deeply different, both syntactically and semanticaly, vis-a-vis Longobardi's (1996) Case Checking Principle.
