Based on our French-Japanesecomparative research', we will focus our analysison some stylised facts in the constructionof the engineer category which seem highlycontrasted from one country to another. Weattempt to show firstly a clear difference in theway engineers in France and in Japan arecertificated or produced by higher educationsystems. Secondly, we propose to link the national mode of socialisation not only withtheir career patterns but also with the natureof the innovation which they tend to promote .
