The crystal structures of two rare copper (II) complexes with the coordinated dithionate ion (S2O6-) [Cu (S2O6) (H2O) (terp)]∞ [1], [Cu (S2O6) (H2O)2 (bpy)]∞ [2] have been determined using the X-ray diffraction technique. (terp : 2,2',2''-terpyridyl, bpy : 2,2'-bipyridine(1)) The crystal of [1] is morioclinic with space group P21/m (No.11)(2) and [2] is monocIinic with P2/a (No.13)(2). The geometry around the Cu atom is a distorted octahedron for [1] and [2]. In both structures, the S2O62- ion coordinates as a bidentate ligand through O atoms and links the two Cu atoms to form infinite chains. The bond distances of Cu-O (S2O62- ion) are 2.320 (4) Å in [1] and 2.434 (4), 2.489 (4) Å in [2], respectively.
