R. Selucký firstly attributes the failure of the existing socialism to Marx's theory. He argues that Marx was wrong when he denounced the market system in favour of 'one state one factory' system. Abolition of market means the destruction of the economic ground of freedom and equality, bringing in the centralization system instead. Secondly Selucký finds the political system in Marx's thoughts being democratic and republican. He naturally has to point out a contradiction between the economic and political ideas in Marx. Selucký asserts that the theoretical basis of democratic socialism can be gained by revising Marx's theory on economics. Finally Selucký insists upon the necessity of market for democratic socialism, examining some conditions in setting up‘market socialism'. This paper analyses the above points in Selucký's Marxism, Socialism, Freedom.
