The recent survey and the interviews with the foreign undergrgraduates in the Faculty of Engineering indicates that are haying difficulties in understanding regular classes required by the university and by the department of each student's major. This is due to not only their insufficient j apanese but also the lack of their basic knowledge in their specialty and English as well. Supplemental classes for foreign undergraduates such as "Engineering in japan" which is newly 0ffered this year for them is necessary to aim the following objectives. (1) japanese to the level of the first grade japanese Proficiency Test (2) Fundamental scientific subjects such as caIculus to the level required in theclasses in our engineering departments. (3) English to the second grade level of English Proficiency Test
