There are many words which include "CHAKU(着)" in Japanese vocabulary. Yet CHAKU is very important in showing the aspect of the progressive form in the Chinese language nowadays. In mainland China, the character CHAKU had been used as a content item before the Tang period. During the Tang period, poets began to use it in their poems as a particle and it has been used more and more frequently as a grammatical word since then. The change of the form of CHAKU in Japanese vocabulary was different from that in Chinese vocabulary. It was used mostly as a content item before Kamakura era, then Buddhist monks started to use it as an inflectional affix. The function of the grammatical word of CHAKU has not been shown. Forms of CHAKU do not shift abruptly from one category to another, but go through a series of gradual transitions. Thus, in this thesis we tried to find a different way of change of CHAKU between Japanese and Chinese languages considering of the flow of time.
