Ultrasonic pulse signal has been extensively used for measuring the sound speed in a small media and the profile velocity of moving scatterers because of the merits of its distance resolution and harmless affect to the human body in Doppler technique. The phase of continuous sinusoidal signal, which describes the detail time within its period, is sensitive in the measurement of the information related to time parameters and is obvious in correspondence because it is independent on the magnitude of signal. On the basis of the phase peculiarity, a new phase conception in time domain is introduced in pulse signal. In this paper we propose the phase transformation in time domain of pulse signal. It has features as follows : (1) the phase obtained is independent of D.C. components, (2) the spacial resolution is relatively high and (3) the sensitivity is strong to components around the carrier frequency of the pulse signal. This transformation will be a key-technique for such applications as ultrasonic Doppler frequency measurement, time interval determination and so on by using ultrasonic pulse signal.
