A cadmium thin film which was prepared by vapor-deposition method is used to study the corrosion behaviors and the effects of pretreatment of n-butylamine in various corrosive atmospheres. The experiments were mainly carried out by measuring the electric resistance of the film to measure the corrosion rate. The authors introduce a simple definition using the ratio of initial electric resistance change (r_0) as an index of the initial state of films, in order to evaluate scattered experimental values, i.e., the specimens having the higher r_0 values were more sensitive to corrosive environments. Corrosion products were identified to be Cd(OH)_2,CdCl_2・5/2 H_2O and CdSO_3・1/2 H_2O under the atmospheres of water, hydrochloric acid and sulfurous acid, respectively, by X-ray diffraction method. Pretreatment of the films with n-butylamine showed an inhibitive, effects under the atmospheres mentioned above.
