Fibrous potassium titanate was synthesized by hydro-thermal reaction between 10 N potassium hydroxide and titanium dioxide at 460℃. X-ray diffraction results showed that the products were the mixture of K_2Ti_6O_<13>, K_2Ti_2O_5 and K_2TiO_3. The crystal structure of hexa-and di-titanates was determined by Fourier projections using Weissenberg techniques. Hexatitanate forms a lattice of titanium-oxygen octahedra in an open framework, where the interstitial tunnels are occupied by potassium ions. The structure of dititanate agreed with that reported by S. Andersson et al. X-ray diagrams of hexa-and di-titanates showed that the fiber axes of both crystals were b-axis. Dissolution of the fibers into acids was tested. Most potassium ions in the titanates were easily extracted by dilute hydrocloric acid, sulfuric acid, oxalic acid and acetic acid. This means that potassium ions in the titanate crystal go out through the interstitial tunnels in the framework of titanium-oxygen atoms.
