Spur gears of 6-4 brass containing 0.9% lead were engaged and driven. Slip lines with a special appearance were observed in every grain near the gear surface. This type of slipping is different from that appears at a surface of ordinary fatigued specimens and that is thought to be different from that appears when wearing together two pieces of α-brass.
