This paper broadly introduces child care issues that female managers currently face in the American workplace. When female managers pursue their careers, balancing home and work is a difficult challenge. There is an increasing demand for family support, and corporations are beginning to consider the possibility of being "family-friendly" to meet the demands. In the United States, day care began as charity for the poor and broken families or as a special program during wartime. Currently some corporations are making positive moves to-wards child care as part of a program to reduce turnover and retain capable workers. Higher company expectations require family support and changes in working styles such as flextime. The changing corporate environment and support systems increase the possibility for female managers to fulfill their goal of balancing home and career.
