Results of measurements of day and night airglows by means of K and L rocket are reviewed on the background of recent general knowledge of airglow theories. (i) Height measurements for night airglow emissions. The height distributions of emission rate of OI 5577, OI 6300 and Nal 5893 of the night airglow were measured with sufficient reliability. The height of maximum emission of these lines are h_max (5577)=95100 km, h_max(6300)=270〜280km and h_max(5893)=85〜92km respectively. (ii) Height and emission rate of day airglow. The height distributions of emission rate of OI 6300 and N_2II 3914 of the day airglow were measured together with height distribution of electron number density. The heights of maximum emission of these lines are h_max (6300)⋍180km and h_max(3914)⋍220km respectively. Their total intensities are I (6300)⋍12 KR and I (3914)⋍7KR in the daytime. The excitation mechanism of these lines in presence of the solar radiation was discussed in fair detail based on the model atmosphere and electron density profile (i) Theoretical estimations of distribution of emission rate of the geocorona. Height distributions of the geocorona lines such as Hel 584 and HeII 304 have been theoretically estimated in preparation for future studies on geocorona by means of L rockets.
