1. There are many synonyms in OE words. 'Warrior' has 45 synonyms. 2. From the point of word-formation we can classify the 45 words into the following two kinds. (1) Simple word (14 words) (2) Compound word (31 words) 3. Furthermore we can classify them in detail. (1) Simple word (i) Single word (12 words) (ii) Derivative (2 words) (2) Compound word (i) 「Noun+Present Participle」 (8 words) (ii) 「Noun+Noun」 (23 words) 4. About the situation of the word used we can say as follows. (1) Some words are used to denote the meaning of 'warrior' only. (2) In addition to the meaning of 'warrior,' some words, especially, some compound words denote the meaning of the first element of the word. 5. Of the frequency of the word used we can say as follows. (1) From the number of the words (i) Simple word-14 words (31.1%) (ii) Compound word-31words (68.9%) (2) From the number of the examples (i) Simple word-118 examples (67.8%) (ii) Compound word - 56 examples (32.2%) In the number of the words compound words have twice as many as simple words, but in the number of the examples simple words have twice as many as compound words.
