• Sumo is a sport culture that was fostered by Japanese people and culture, it has been a difinite organization and institution in the capacity of professional sport. The Nihonshoki manifest that the first historical fact of Sumo is in the year 642 A.D. Sumo is a oldest sport culture in Japan. The object of this research is to make clear the Sumo History in Japanese Society. Because of make clear the character of Japanese Sport Culture. The result of this research made clear that Sumo developed a ritual of the Imperial Court in aristocracy at first and a military arts of Samurai in the feudal age. According to fall down the feudal system and the economy of self sufficiency, Sumo was professionalized by mercantilism and the economy of money. And it became a public entertainment.
