This study described that coal ash could be utilized as soil improvement material. To investigate the effect of coal ash improvements on the compression and strength characteristics of weak soils, consolidation tests and triaxial compression test are carried out by some soils mixed at various mixture rates of coal ash. From the experimental results, it was recognized that maximum dry density and shear strength increased, and compressibility and coefficient of secondary compression decreased respectively with mixing of coal ash. It became clear that coal ash was available for improvement material of weak soils.
