The formulations by the transfer matrix method are conducted based on the idea that the structure is consisted of a finite number of discrete elements having the elastic relationship which is obtained as the general solution of differential equations governing the behavior of the elements, and the analysis is carried out to fit these elements together into entire structure by the only succesive matrix multiplications. Parallel to the rapid progress of the finite element method, a great number of papers concerning the applications of the transfer matrix method have also presented and have been widely applied to analyze the various structures because of its clearness of philosophy and easiness of computer programming. One of the advantage of the transfer matrix method is that the number of degrees of freedom in simultaneous equations is algebraically reduced in the process of succesive matrix multiplications and the computer programming becomes a simple task. In this paper, the transfer matrix method is applied to the analysis of cable-stayed girder bridges and also the numerical computation of them is presented here.
