A variety of methods is now available for producing congenital malformation in mammals by treatment of several drags. Among these is a method employing relatively large doses of vitamin A (Hypervitaminosis-A). First devised y Cohlan, who found with rats that it very successfully induced malfomation. The efficacy of this technique was confirmed by Giroud and Martinet. Author of the present paper carried out experiment in the mouse using hypervitaminosis-A of the mother during early stage of pregnancy. The presence of a copulation pfug was taken to indicate that one day had passed since conception. At 9 days after conception the females were given a single dose of 15,000 I. U. of vitamin A through the mouth, by means of a tuberculin syringe. The females were killed at, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24 hours each other after administrated of vitamin A. The fetuses were removed, and then fixed in Bouin's soution for serial sectioning in preparation for histological research. As result, there were many histological anomaly, such as pyknotic and degradative cells. Among such malformed cells were many showing, called the pycnosis pattern by Marrin Padilla et al. This paper stresses these pycnosis due to hypervitaminosis-A.
