The 'Kosen' is a very unique academic institution in Japan's educational system. It is combination of the senior high school and the university. As for English education, it has an advantage that the senior high school doesn't. Since 'Kosen' students are not chained to 'cramming English' just for the entrance examination to universities, they can be provided a better chance to study 'English for communication'. At Kobe Kosen, aural-oral English has been a very important part of the English education, for which most senior high schools cannot spare much time. Although there is a curriculum limitation (i.e. the total number of English classes for 5 years at the 'Kosen' is smaller than that for 3 years at the senior high school), the English teachers and the students make every effort to acquire 'English for communication'. The LL (Language Laboratory) is very useful for the above-mentioned purpose and has been utilized for many years. This study is focused on the brief history, the hardware and software, and the hopeful future of the LL at Kobe Kosen.
