• The present study reviews applications of urban sustainability indicators in Europe. These indicators aimed to measure progress of sustainable development chiefly in urban areas. Chapter 2 outlines a project for urban sustainability indicators, the Urban Audit, undertaken by the European Union in the late 1990s. Finally, some problems in the applications of these indicators are summarised in Chapter 3.
