• We have explored the impact of domestic tariff policy in an environment where competitive firms face dumping from a foreign monopoly during the periods of low foreign demand. We find that the introduction of domestic tariff leads to the contraction of foreign monopoly's capacity investment. Thus, the use of domestic tariff policy leads directly to lower imports in periods of soft foreign demand. It serves to diminish the dumping activity of the foreign monopolist.
