2,2'-Di (hydroxymethyl) butoxypropyl-terminated polydimethylsiloxane (DHMBP-PDMS) was prepared as a new condensation type macromonomer for the synthesis of graft copolymer. In order to prepare DHMBP-PDMS, we investigated the synthetic route via hydrosilylation of l-allyloxy-2,2'-di (benzyloxymethyl) butane (ABMB) with hydrosilyl-terminated polydimethylsiloxane (H-PDMS), followed by hydrogenolysis of the two benzyl groups of 2,2'-di (benzyloxymethyl) butoxypropyl-terminated polydimethylsiloxane (DBMBP-PDMS). The polycondensation of DHMBP-PDMS with 1,6-hexanediol and isophthaloyl dicholoride was carried out in dry xylene, to afford polydimethyl-siloxane-grafted polyester. This polymer was soluble in several organic solvents, such as acetone, THF, chloroform but insoluble in alcohols. Further, the glass transition temperature (T_g) and the melting point (T_m) were detected at-123.3℃ and 64.4℃, respectively, by differential scanning calorimetry, which indicated the phase separation of each component.
