To find the coefficient of variation for unconfined compression strength of the soil improved using the shallow mixing soil stabilization method for small scale structures, cores collected from 161 sites around the Kanto Region were studied. From the results of this study the coefficient of variation was found to be 24% which is nearly the same as the coefficient of variation of 23% obtained from the fragments of the unconfined compression specimens which were used for the large triaxial test conducted by the authors. In addition, as the improved soil quality control method we settled on the Swedish weight sounding test which is widely used for ground surveys for small scale structure. As a result, we were able to identity a relationship between the time that has passed since the ground was improved by mixing soil stabilization and the Swedish weight sounding test results, and found that this method is sufficiently effective for the quality control of the ground improved by mixing soil stabilization.
