Study on Deep-drawing of Thermoplastic Resins : Influence of Hydrostatic Pressure to Stress Whitening

Stress whitening, neck and wide mouthed cup appear in deep drawing of thermoplastic resin sheet. But there are few papers concerning disappearance of the stress whitening mentioned above. Accordingly, this paper describes the influence of hydrostatic pressures on the disappearance of stress whitening and the improvement of the limit drawing ratio in deep drawing of thermoplastic resin sheet. Materials of specimens used are six kinds thermoplastic resins such as polypropylen (PP), high density polyethylene (HDPE), polyamide (PA6), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polycarbonate (PC) and acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS). The experiments of tensile test and deep drawing were made under the atomospheric and hydrostatic pressures. As the result, it was found that hydrostatic pressure was effective in the disappearance of stress whitening and improvement of limit drawing ratio.
