This paper presents writer identification method based on impulse response of the system characterizing the motion in writing pattern such as signature, cursive script and so on. The components in the horizontal and the vertical directions of the writing motion are used as the input and the output of the system to find the impulse response. The resulting impulse response can fully describe the feature of the writing motion. Writer inentification experiments for Kanji signature were attempted with the impulse response to show the effectiveness of the proposed method. The proposed method has an advantage that the writer identification problem can be reduced to the system identification problem.
