The theory of resonant ion acceleration which has been recently developed is compared quantitatively with the acceleration of energetic ions by a quasiperpendicular shock observed by Voyager 2 at a distance of ∿ 1.9 AU from the Sun. The theory explains many important features of the experimental results.
