<RESEARCH REPORT>GEOMETRIC COMPRESSION OF HOLLOW CYLINDER IN A COAXIAL RELATIVISTIC ELECTRON BEAM DIODE

Dynamic behaviors of a hollow cylindrical electrode are observed optically in a coaxial diode with circular-pinched electron flow. Motions of the thin cylinder irradiated by an electron beam are divided into an explosive and an ablative mode according to the electron stopping range. When the electron beam produces a surface plasma on the outer electrode, the thin inner electrode also collapses under the stagnation pressure produced by the expanding plasma.
