This paper proposes a new load frequency control system using the internal power demand estimation and the superconducting magnetic energy storage. The purposes of this research are to prevent unnecessary control actions due to the use of an integral-type controller and to improve the response characteristics of a system under the influence of generation rate constraints. The control effects of the proposed load frequency control system have been examined and compared with existing control systems by the digital simulation of a 4-area longitudinal system.
