A one-dimensional model is used to predict the instability of a liquid capillary jet. A local analysis of the instability characteristics is made in every cross-section with the jet radius and the axial velocity as functions of axial coordinate. Thus for large Froude numbers the effects of contraction and acceleration of the jet are taken into account in local approximation. Numerical results for the wave length variation and the growth rate of disturbances along the flow are obtained. Some experimental data for definite velocities and conditions of outflow is shown.
