Inhibitors of glucose absorption play an important role in the treatment of diabetes. In this research, we report that silkworm powder has inhibitory effects on glucose absorption in human intestinal epithelial cells. Silkworm powder inhibited α-glucosidase activation and glucose transporter (SGLT1) expression. These results suggest that silkworm powder can be used as a natural functional food for the prevention and alleviation of type-2 diabetes.
