増殖性腎臓病(PKD)の原因粘液胞子虫PKXの感染の有無を海水移行後のマスノスケについて調べた。スモルトが孵化場から放流され海に降る春に, その群の一部をブリティッシュコロンビアの Pacific Biological Station (PBS) に移し, 91年はPKXフリーの淡水に, 92年は海面の生簀に, 93年と94年は水温 15〜17℃ の海水水槽に収容した。いずれの年もPBSに移した時にほぼすべての魚がPKXに感染しており, それらの魚の海洋での生残にPKDが影響を及ぼす可能性があることを示した。
