In this paper, a rate-compatible low-density parity-check (LDPC) code is proposed for the land mobile communications. The objective is to apply the rate-compatible LDPC code to communication systems that allow reliable transmission over the land mobile communications. By constructing parity check matrix with progressively increased column-weights (PICW), a punctured LDPC coding scheme is proposed to achieve an easily realizable rate-compatible system. Computer simulation results are presented and analyzed. By using the proposed punctured LDPC code with PICW, significant advantages are achieved for reliable transmission with rate-compatibility.
