We found out that the modulated photocurrent (MPC) in organic photovoltaic cells with an organic semiconductor of titanyl phthalocyanine is sensitive to additional bias light. The MPC steeply decayed after the irradiation of the bias light and slowly recovered after the interruption of the bias light. Such a transient response is characteristic of the organic photovoltaic cells, since it was not observed in conventional silicon photodiodes. Injection of excess carriers due to the bias light reduced the power conversion efficiency because of the formation of space charge in organic semiconductors. Analysis of the transient response is applicable to investigate traps in organic semiconductors.
