Dissociation of 1,2,3-1H-Benzotriazole (Bt-H) from 1,3-Bis(benzotriazolyl)-2-(p-methylphenyl)isoindoline is investigated using chloroform-d of various manufacturers, and time-dependent product distribution patterns are monitored by 1 H NMR spectra. Some solvents are found appropriate to be used in the determination of isoindoline/2H-isoindole ratio. On the other hand, some are found to induce at once the dissociation of Bt-H from isoindoline and the polymerization of resulting 2H-isoiudole. The latter results can be attributed to quinonic materials in solvents, which are checked by the alkaline coloration reaction with o-dinitrobenzene/formaldehyde.
